You will receive 1,200 EUR for one year to cover your living costs whilst studying physics or astronomy at University of St Andrews in Scotland. The university awards this scholarship to first-year students who require financial support, thereby helping you to cover your basic living costs at the start of your degree.

Who can apply

  • Study level: You are starting your first year of your Bachelor’s degree at the University of St Andrews.
  • Subject: You are studying physics, astrophysics or theoretical physics, or are on a combined degree programme that includes physics or theoretical physics.
  • Where you come from: You are from Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, Wales or the European Union.
  • Financial need: Your household income is below the threshold applicable in your home country. When submitting your application, please state this amount in pounds (GBP).

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the university’s scholarships and funding portal. The application deadline is 1 April. Please apply even before you have received confirmation of your place at university.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is strictly targeted: it is aimed exclusively at first-year students studying physics and astronomy at a single university who can demonstrate a financial need. This keeps the number of applicants small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide evidence of your household income, your chances are good. It is advisable to apply well in advance of the April deadline.
