About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a one-off payment of about 1,725 EUR (1,500 GBP), which will be paid out at the end of November of your first year of study at Bangor University in Wales. This is to reward students from North Wales who achieve good results in the university’s entrance examination. The funding comes from a 1908 donation by Benjamin Piercy from Wrexham. You cannot carry it over to a later year. Furthermore, you cannot combine it with other academic scholarships, with the exception of a sports scholarship or a scholarship from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
Who can apply
- Where you are from: You were born in, or live in, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire or Wrexham Maelor – all of which are places in North Wales.
- Where you study: You are applying for a Bachelor’s degree programme (or a programme with a foundation year) at Bangor University and are listing Bangor as your first choice via UCAS.
- Residence: You live in the United Kingdom or, for fee purposes, have the status of a UK resident.
- Level: You have completed the courses at level 3, i.e. the Abitur or an equivalent qualification.
- Field of study: Any subject is fine. You sit the entrance exam in the subject that is most closely related to your degree programme.
- Grades: You meet the entry requirements set for your degree programme.
How to apply
You must submit an application form for an entry-level scholarship during the application period. For the start of studies on 2026, this period runs from 8 October 2025 to 30 January 2026. You will then sit a written examination in your chosen subject at your own school or university in February. You will receive your results by email in March.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is very limited. You must be from one of the four regions in North Wales and be starting your degree in Bangor, so only a small number of people meet the criteria. Your success depends on the entrance exam, so thorough preparation in your chosen subject is crucial. If you clearly meet the local eligibility criteria and perform well, your prospects are good. Please note that the scholarship may not be awarded every year and may be withheld if no candidate is deemed strong enough.
