What the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering Scholarship gives you

You will receive a one-off grant of £1,500 (about 1,730 EUR), which will be paid out in November of your first year of study at Bangor University. The grant is funded by Bangor University’s scholarship programme for first-year students. Each year, around 8 of these scholarships are awarded to students commencing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering. In addition, you may be eligible for further scholarships from Bangor University, such as a merit-based scholarship.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are starting a Bachelor’s degree at the School of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Bangor University.
• Where you study: Applications to Bangor University in the UK are made via UCAS, the central application system for UK higher education institutions.
• Residence: For the purposes of tuition fees, you are regarded as resident in the United Kingdom.
• Exam performance: You sit a written examination in Computer Science or a related subject and achieve a mark high enough to be selected.
• Timing: This grant applies only to your first year of study and cannot be carried over to a subsequent year.

How to apply

Complete the application form for the entry-level scholarship online by 31 January. You will then sit a written examination at your own school or further education college, equivalent to A-level standard in Computer Science or Electronics. You will receive your results by email in March. To receive the scholarship, you must list Bangor as your first or second choice on UCAS. The scholarship will be paid out once you have enrolled at Bangor University.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is granted on a highly selective basis. You must be resident in the UK, apply for a specific degree programme at a specific university, and pass a subject-specific examination against a limited number of competitors. With around 8 scholarships available each year and selection based on a marked test, a strong performance in computer science offers well-suited applicants a genuine chance. The university may withhold the awards if no one achieves a sufficiently high mark; therefore, the exam result is effectively the deciding factor in the award process.
