About this grant / loan

Renfrewshire Educational Trust grant

You will receive a one-off grant of around 870 EUR to cover educational costs. The exact amount depends on your financial circumstances. This is not a monthly allowance, but a fund designed to help children, young people and school leavers in the Paisley area of western Scotland with specific costs. Examples include school trips, lessons for talented young musicians, artists or actors, and the transition from school to further education.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: You live in the administrative districts of Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire or Inverclyde in Scotland and have lived there for at least three years.
  • Stage: You are a pupil at a primary or secondary school, or you have finished school and would now like to obtain a qualification.
  • Financial need: You must be eligible for free school meals.
  • Field of study: Every subject and every activity counts, including music, art and drama lessons.

How to apply

The application deadline is 30 June. If you are unsure where to send your application, please contact your school or your local education authority in Renfrewshire.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant scheme is very narrowly defined. You must live in one of three specific local authority areas, be eligible for free school meals, and be a pupil or a school leaver – so the target group is small. If you meet these criteria and can demonstrate your need, your chances are good. As this is a local fund with limited resources, clear, well-documented applications are preferred over elaborate ones.
