What you get

You will receive £1,500 per year (about 1,725 EUR) per academic year, provided you maintain satisfactory academic performance. The University of Glasgow awards approximately 50 of these scholarships per year group. They are awarded to students who would otherwise face difficulties taking up their place at university for financial reasons. If you are studying dentistry, you will only receive this grant in your first year; in subsequent years, you will then receive the ‘NHS Dental Student Support Grant’.

Who can apply

• Where you live: As far as tuition fees are concerned, you are considered a ‘home’ student, which generally means that you live in Scotland.
• Your offer: You have been offered a place on a full-time degree programme at the University of Glasgow for the 2027/28 academic year.
• Degree level: This is your first bachelor’s degree.
• Subject: Any subject is eligible, from accountancy to zoology, across all faculties at the university.
• Financial need: Due to your personal or family circumstances, you are finding it difficult to pay your rent. You must provide evidence of your household income to support this.
• Grades: You have very good school grades, which are usually close to your UCAS offer: BBBB to AABB in the Scottish Highers. SWAP applicants require a minimum of ABB; students on the University of Glasgow’s ‘Access’ programme require BC; other entry routes are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

How to apply

Apply online via the scholarship page by 8 May. Write two short personal statements: one explaining your motivation and commitment to education, and one detailing the financial and family circumstances that make it difficult for you to study. Please also upload proof of your household income. Applications without this proof will not be considered.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this funding are strict: you must be resident in Scotland, have been offered a place at the University of Glasgow, and, in addition to very good grades, demonstrate a genuine financial need. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. With around 50 places available each year and a strong emphasis on academic performance, competition is fierce. However, if you clearly meet the criteria and can substantiate your financial need with valid evidence, your chances are good.
