Talented Athlete Support Programme (GCU)

You will receive money towards your training and competition costs, which is calculated on an individual basis according to the actual expenses you have submitted, such as travel, accommodation, participation fees and coaching costs. You will also have access to the training facilities at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow. The programme is run by GCU, funded by private donors, and around 25 students are admitted each year.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying at Glasgow Caledonian University in Glasgow, Scotland.
• Study mode: Both full-time and part-time students are welcome to apply.
• Study level: Open to students on diploma, Bachelor’s (years 1 to 4) and Master’s degree programmes, as well as to PhD students.
• Sport: Every sport counts. Previous scholarship holders have taken part in competitions in athletics, boxing, rowing, curling, motocross and pole spinning.
• Sporting record: You can demonstrate impressive results from the last three years, as well as a clear training and competition plan for the coming year.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Coach reference: Your coach or sports association will complete a recommendation form confirming your performance level and potential.

How to apply

Please send the application form, together with a letter of recommendation from your coach and your SAAS approval notice or fee statement, to the GCU ARC team. The application deadline is 31 October 2026. Late applications will not be considered.

How realistic are your chances?

Only GCU students may apply, and around 25 places are awarded each year. The intake is therefore small, but the standards are high. If you can demonstrate a strong three-year track record, a well-structured training plan and a comprehensive coaching certificate, and can provide evidence of your ability to cover the costs, your chances are good. Please submit your complete application well in advance of the October deadline.
