About this scholarship

Benefit

During your first year at Cardiff University, you will receive a grant of up to about 1,150 EUR (£1,000). You can choose between two options: either a discount of £1,000 on your accommodation costs or a travel allowance of £500 (approx. 575 EUR). You can receive this support in addition to the Cardiff University scholarship of £500 per year (approximately 575 EUR). Cardiff University awards this scholarship to make it easier for students from under-represented groups to access the university.

Eligibility

  • University: You are studying a full-time bachelor’s degree at Cardiff University.
  • Earlier programme: As a 16- or 17-year-old university or sixth-form student in Wales, you took part in the ‘Step Up’ support programme in Cardiff. Without ‘Step Up’, you are not eligible for this scholarship.
  • Household income: Your family earns less than £35,000 per year (around 40,000 EUR).
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, but the ‘Step Up’ programme is aimed at young people living in Wales.

How to apply

There is no application form. Cardiff University checks who meets the entry requirements and contacts eligible students directly, so you do not need to submit any documents.

How realistic are your chances?

The target group is very small. You must have already completed Cardiff University’s ‘Step Up’ programme and have a household income of less than £35,000.. If you meet both of these conditions, there is neither a selection process nor an application procedure, as the university awards the grant automatically. In practice, the real hurdle is having taken part in the ‘Step Up’ programme several years ago.
