Benefit

You will receive a grant of about 460 to 690 EUR (£400 to £600) towards your tuition fees. The money goes directly to your school, college or university, not to you, and covers tuition fees only. The grant is initially awarded for one year. If you continue with the same course, you can reapply for the grant for subsequent years, up to a maximum of three years in total. The grant is provided by a charity in Leeds which has been supporting women’s education in the UK since 1875.

Eligibility

• Women only: This prize is intended for women.
• Nationality: You are a British citizen.
• Age: You are at least 18.
• Study place: You have already been offered a place at a school, college or university in the UK.
• Field of study: Any course is fine.
• Financial need: You need help with funding your tuition fees and are not eligible for state funding for a Bachelor’s degree. If you are able to take out a loan for a Master’s degree, you may still apply.
• Not a member: You are not a member of the charity itself.

How to apply

You complete the online form on the charity’s website. No further documents are required. The application period runs from 1 January to 1 June, and applications are assessed in two rounds – in March and June. Your form must be received by midnight on the first day of the relevant month, and you will usually receive a decision before the end of that month.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a small, highly targeted scholarship. Only British women who are not eligible for standard funding for a bachelor’s degree and who require assistance with their tuition fees may apply, which means the pool of applicants remains limited. If you clearly meet these criteria and explain your situation in detail on the application form, your chances are good. Please note that the amounts are modest and cover only tuition fees; therefore, the scholarship is best suited as supplementary funding rather than as a primary source of funding.
