Iberdrola Foundation - Master Scholarships for Energy and Environment (UK)

What you get

You will receive your full university tuition fees paid as well as a monthly living allowance of approximately 1,400 EUR (1,200 GBP) per month for up to 12 months to enable you to complete a Master’s degree at a UK university. You will also be supported by a mentor from the company – an experienced professional who will guide you through industry-related academic projects. And you will take part in ScottishPower’s recruitment programme, which may lead to a job in the energy sector. The funding is provided by ScottishPower, the UK subsidiary of the Iberdrola energy group. Your payments will be taxed as income in the UK.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You would like to enrol on a face-to-face Master’s programme from autumn 2026. Integrated Master’s programmes are not eligible for funding.
• Your qualifications: You already hold a bachelor’s degree with honours, with a grade of 2:1 or higher (or an equivalent qualification), or are due to complete your degree by June or July 2026, or you hold a master’s degree from a recognised university.
• Subject: Your degree programme must be in one of the eligible subject areas: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Electronics, as well as Data Science, Cyber Security, Telecommunications, Business Analytics, Cloud Computing or AI.
• University: You can study at any British university, provided your degree programme falls within the eligible subject areas. Twelve partner universities are listed, including Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Glasgow, Liverpool, Cambridge and Imperial College London.
• Separate university place: You must apply directly to your chosen UK university via the standard application process. You cannot receive the scholarship without submitting this application.
• Nationality and right to be in the UK: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, but must hold a study and work permit for the UK. Citizens of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland must have ‘Settled Status’ or a UK visa; other international applicants must have a student visa.
• No double funding: During the funding period, you must not receive any other scholarship or similar financial support.
• First time: You have not yet received any funding from ScottishPower, the ScottishPower Foundation or any other company within the Iberdrola Group.

How to apply

You can apply online via ScottishPower’s careers portal. The 2026 window ran from 2 to 29 March (midnight UK time). The selection process comprises several stages: an online video interview and game-based assessments, followed by a face-to-face assessment day in Glasgow or Hoylake. All applicants will receive feedback by early June.

How realistic are your chances?

Only 10 scholarships are awarded each year, meaning that competition for this prestigious award is fierce amongst many qualified graduates. The subject-specific requirements and work permit conditions narrow down the pool of applicants, which is an advantage if you clearly meet the entry requirements for a Master’s programme in engineering or data science and are eligible to study and work in the UK. You should expect a rigorous selection process involving interviews and an assessment day. A well-prepared applicant with a strong 2:1 is more likely to have a fair chance than a guaranteed place.
