University of Aberdeen - The Robert and Elizabeth Mitchell Law Scholarship

What you get

The about 4,600 EUR per year (£4,000) scholarship enables you to study law at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. It is an entry-level scholarship awarded to you at the start of your degree programme. It provides support throughout your studies leading to an LLB degree. One scholarship is available, funded by the University’s Faculty of Law.

Who can apply

• Degree: You will be starting a full-time Bachelor’s degree in Law (Single Honours, Joint Honours or Major-Minor) at the University of Aberdeen in September 2026.
• Admission: You have applied via UCAS and have been offered a place at the University of Aberdeen, either with or without conditions.
• Residence and fees: You live in the United Kingdom and pay the tuition fees applicable to the Rest of the United Kingdom (RUK) or the home fees. This also applies to people resident in the United Kingdom who are temporarily abroad. Students resident in Scotland and international students are not eligible to apply.
• Background (gives priority): Priority will be given to applicants with one or more circumstances that make access to higher education difficult. These are circumstances defined by the Scottish Government and the Scottish Funding Council that make it difficult to gain entry to university.
• Selection criteria: The decision will then be based on a balance between your grades, your financial needs and your personal qualities. None of these factors on its own is a strict exclusion criterion, but better results and a clear financial need will work in your favour.
• Personal statement: Make the most of this opportunity to demonstrate your motivation, your commitment to your own professional development and your strong communication skills.

Applications must be submitted via the online form on the university’s funding page. Please include a personal statement in which you discuss the qualities mentioned above. The application deadline is mid-May.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is awarded, aimed at first-year law students who come from a disadvantaged background and who pay ‘Rest of the UK’ (RUK) or UK national tuition fees. This means that the pool of eligible applicants is quite small. If you clearly fit this profile and can demonstrate both your financial need and your personal qualities in your personal statement, your prospects are quite good. A convincing, honest personal statement is more important here than polished wording.
