Eagle House Educational Trust university bursary

You will receive a grant of around 1,725 EUR (approximately £1,500), although the amounts may vary. It will be paid throughout your bachelor’s degree for up to 3 years. The money covers the actual costs of your studies: accommodation, books and equipment, travel costs and other study-related expenses. The grant is a dedicated fund managed by the Somerset Community Foundation, which supports young people who have grown up in foster care. Tuition fees are not covered, and no expenses incurred before the start of your first year of study can be reimbursed.

Who can apply

• Age: You are between 18 and 24 years old.
• Study level: You are starting the first year of a Bachelor’s degree at a British university.
• Care background: You were placed in foster care or in a children’s home, or the children’s services department played a significant role in your upbringing. This must have been the case in Somerset, Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire.
• Financial need: You are under considerable financial pressure.
• Field of study: You can study any subject.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at a British university and have one of the above-mentioned backgrounds in the field of nursing.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Somerset Community Foundation’s online form. Once the programme opens, the application deadline is 15 June at 5. A panel will then make a decision, and you will receive a response by the end of July. The programme is currently closed and is expected to reopen in April 2027.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are very strict. You must have been discharged from care, come from a specific area within a local authority, be starting your first year of a bachelor’s degree, and be in financial need. As a result, the group of eligible applicants remains small. The foundation states that it is usually able to fund 2 out of 3 applications. So, if you clearly meet these criteria and can provide evidence of your background in child and youth welfare as well as your financial hardship, your chances are good.
