About this scholarship
Guest Keen and Nettlefolds PG Scholarship
You will receive a one-off payment of about 1,150 EUR (1,000 GBP) to cover your living costs for one academic year. This covers day-to-day expenses such as rent and food, but does not cover tuition fees. The University of Birmingham awards this grant to PhD students in engineering.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
- Level: You are a PhD student in a research programme which may also include postdoctoral researchers.
- Field of study: For engineering disciplines only: chemical engineering, civil engineering, electronics/electrical engineering and systems engineering, mechanical engineering, or materials and metallurgical engineering.
- Grades: You have a track record of outstanding academic achievement.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
You cannot apply yourself. Each engineering university nominates one candidate. There is no fixed deadline, so your university can nominate you at any time during your studies.
How realistic are your chances?
Only one person is nominated per engineering faculty, so the field of entrants is very small. However, you have no direct influence over this: it depends on whether your faculty selects you over your fellow students. If your research achievements and grades stand out within your department, you’ll be in a strong position, as only engineering students from Birmingham are competing.
