Tuition Fee Loan at Lincoln Bishop University

You will receive a government-funded loan of up to £9,790 per year (about 11,400 EUR) to cover your tuition fees at Lincoln Bishop University (formerly Bishop Grosseteste University). This applies to a full-time undergraduate degree or a PGCE teacher training course. The Student Loans Company administers the loan and transfers the money directly to the university, so you will never handle the funds yourself. The amount you owe depends solely on your tuition fees, not on your family’s income, and there is no upper age limit. Part-time students can also apply; the amount of the loan is based on the intensity of their studies. As this is a loan, you will need to repay it later once your income exceeds a set threshold.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled on a Bachelor’s or PGCE degree programme at Lincoln Bishop University in the UK. Any degree programme offered there is eligible, regardless of the subject area.
• Degree level: You do not yet hold a degree with honours. The only exception is PGCE students, who may already hold a university degree.
• Citizenship: You are a British national, an EU citizen with ‘settled’ or ‘pre-settled’ status under the EU Settlement Scheme, or an Irish national living in the Common Travel Area.
• Residence: You have lived in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area during the three years prior to the start of your degree programme and are resident in the United Kingdom at the start of the programme.
• Prior studies: If you have already studied at a higher education institution or still have repayments to make to the Student Loans Company, your entitlement may be reduced.

How to apply

You can apply for funding online via the UK Government’s Student Finance Service at gov.uk/student-finance. When you enrol, please bring proof that your funding has been confirmed.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a means-tested grant. It is an entitlement, which means that if you meet the above criteria regarding nationality, residence and course of study, you will receive the grant. The main grounds for exclusion are having already obtained a degree with honours (unless you are undertaking a PGCE) or having outstanding, unpaid student loan debt. Apply for the grant in good time via gov.uk so that your funding is confirmed before you enrol.
