About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a discount of tuition fee discount of about 3,450 EUR (3,000 GBP) on a full-time Master’s programme at Cardiff University. This will reduce your tuition fees; however, you will not receive any cash. The discount applies to one academic year of full-time study. If you are studying part-time, you will receive half the discount in each of the two years. Cardiff University administers the programme and provides a total of up to approximately 575,000 EUR (500,000 GBP), so that many students can benefit from it.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are starting a recognised Master’s degree programme at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom.
  • Fee status: Under the UK’s tuition fee regulations, you are considered a UK (domestic) student.
  • Grades: You have achieved at least a 2.1 (Upper Second-Class Honours) or an equivalent result in your first degree.
  • Offer of a place: You have applied for a place on a Master’s programme or have already been offered a place before applying for the scholarship.
  • Field of study: Open to all interdisciplinary Master’s programmes involving lectures, as well as the MRes in Life Sciences. Not permitted: distance-learning programmes, architecture programmes (MArch), MPhil research programmes and programmes leading to a certificate or diploma (GDip, PgCert, PgDip).
  • How you fund the rest: You are responsible for paying your tuition fees yourself. A student loan from Student Finance Wales or England is acceptable, but your tuition fees must not already be fully covered by another scholarship or funding provider.

How to apply

First, apply for a place on a Master’s programme at Cardiff University. Once you have done so, please submit a separate scholarship application via the university’s online application portal. There are two rounds per year, with application deadlines on 13 April and 6 July. A selection panel decides who will receive funding, and its decision is final.

How realistic are your chances?

The funding is restricted to British students at a specific university who are studying for a 2.1 and pay their own tuition fees; consequently, the pool of applicants is smaller than for open national scholarships. The total amount available is substantial, and each award is a fixed sum of 3,000 GBP, meaning there are plenty of places available. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria and apply in the earlier round rather than waiting until July, your chances are good.
