Thomas Witherden Batt Scholarship (UCL)

You will receive a one-off grant of about 11,500 EUR (10,000 GBP) for a full-time Master of Science (MSc) degree programme at University College London (UCL). This amount will initially be used to cover your tuition fees. The remaining amount will be paid to you in three equal instalments spread across the academic year to cover your living costs. For a two-year full-time or part-time programme, the grant will be divided equally between the two years. UCL administers the scholarship and awards 4 scholarships for 2026/27. You may receive this alongside other scholarships or grants, provided you inform UCL’s Student Funding Office of any other funding you receive.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You have applied for a full-time Master of Science (MSc) programme at UCL for 2026/27.
• Field of study: Every Master of Science (MSc) programme at UCL.
• Where you study: University College London in the United Kingdom.
• Residence: You are normally resident in the United Kingdom and are eligible for the ‘Home’ rate, i.e. the lower tuition fee rate for students resident in the United Kingdom.
• Fresh start: The Master’s programme is a stand-alone course. You cannot have credits from previous courses recognised.
• Financial need: Without financial support, you would not be able to afford a full-time Master’s degree. This is decided by the UCL Student Funding Office.

How to apply

Apply via the ‘Masters Funding Awards’ page on the UCL website by 5 BST on 25 June 2026 at the latest. If you are shortlisted, you will be asked to submit evidence of your financial circumstances in late June or early July. The results will be announced in late July or early August.

How realistic are your chances?

As there are only 4 scholarships available throughout the year and every Master’s programme is eligible, competition amongst Master’s applicants in the UK is fierce. Selection is based solely on financial need. The key factor is clear, well-documented evidence that you would otherwise be unable to afford the programme. If you meet the criteria for home tuition fees and demonstrate financial need, and have your supporting documents ready, you stand a good chance of success if you apply before the deadline in June.
