The National College for Teaching and Leadership provide a bursary  - ITT Bursaries 

What the ITT Bursary gives you

You will receive a sum of tax-free bursary, amounting to approximately 2,098 euros per month, which will be paid in monthly instalments over 12 months whilst you are undertaking teacher training in England. The total amount depends on the subject you are training to teach. For courses starting between September 2026 and July 2027, the following scholarship amounts apply: approximately 33,900 (£29,000) euros for Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics; approximately 23,400 (£20,000) for design and technology, as well as languages; and approximately 5,850 (£5,000) euros for biology and geography. You will never have to repay this amount, and you do not have to pay tax or social security contributions on it. The money comes from the UK Department for Education and is paid out by your educational institution, such as the University of Nottingham. There, you will complete a PGCE (a one-year postgraduate teacher training course), which leads to ‘Qualified Teacher Status’ (QTS) – the qualification you need to teach at state schools in England.

Who can apply

• Course: You are enrolled on a fee-paying postgraduate teacher training programme in England leading to QTS, such as a PGCE.
• Subject: You are studying an eligible degree programme in the subjects subject:: Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Design and Technology, Languages, Biology or Geography. There are no scholarships available for English, History, Primary School Teaching or most other subjects.
• Qualifications: You must hold at least a bachelor’s degree at level 2:2 (with distinction) or higher, a master’s degree or a PhD.
• Combined courses: If your degree programme comprises two subjects, at least half of the course content must relate to the subject for which funding is provided.
• Student finance: You are eligible for support from Student Finance England.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Non-British nationals are eligible to apply provided they hold a permanent residence permit for the United Kingdom and are eligible for student finance.
• Training route: You are enrolled on a fee-paying degree programme and are not undertaking teacher training as part of a permanent employment scheme. Scholarships are not awarded for permanent employment schemes.

How to apply

You do not need to apply for the grant separately. When you apply for teacher training, your training provider will check whether you meet the eligibility criteria. They will confirm the amount of the grant and the payment dates in writing before your course begins.

How realistic are your chances?

There is neither a selection process nor a selection. If you meet the requirements regarding your field of study, degree and funding for your studies, you will receive the scholarship automatically. The real question is whether your field of study and your grades meet the requirements. You should therefore carefully check the list of eligible degree subjects and your final degree mark. For some degree subjects, a higher-value scholarship from a professional organisation may be available instead; however, you cannot receive both scholarships at the same time.
