School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh - Scottish Power Foundation Scholarship

What you get

You will receive your full university tuition fees paid as well as a monthly living allowance of approximately 1,400 EUR (£1,200) for one year of your Master’s degree in the UK. This amounts to a total of around 16,800 EUR (£14,400) over the course of the year. You’ll also be supported by a mentor from the company – an experienced professional who will guide you through industry-related academic projects. In addition, you’ll gain access to ScottishPower’s recruitment programme for a career in the energy sector. The funding provider is ScottishPower, the UK energy company that is part of the Iberdrola Group.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You will be starting a face-to-face Master’s programme in the academic year 2026–2027. Integrated Master’s programmes are excluded from this.
• Grades: You hold a Bachelor’s degree with distinction in 2:1 (Upper Second Class) or higher, or a Master’s degree from a recognised university, or are expected to obtain one. If you are in the final year of your Bachelor’s degree, you must achieve this standard by June or July 2026.
• Field of study: Your degree programme must be in the field of engineering (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering or electronics) or in the fields of data, cyber security, telecommunications, business analytics, cloud computing or AI.
• Where you study: Any British university, provided the degree programme is relevant to these subject areas. Twelve partner universities are listed, including Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Glasgow, Cambridge and Imperial College London.
• University place: You have already applied via the standard admissions process to the UK university of your choice.
• Right to study: You must have the required status to study in the UK. Applicants from the EU, the EEA and Switzerland must provide evidence of ‘Settled Status’ or a UK visa, whilst other international applicants require a student visa.
• No double funding: You must not be receiving any other scholarship or similar funding at the same time. Furthermore, you must not have previously received a scholarship from ScottishPower or any other company within the Iberdrola Group.

How to apply

You should apply online via the ScottishPower application portal between 2 March and midnight (UK time) on 29 March 2026. The selection process takes place in several stages: online video interviews and game-based assessments in the spring, followed by a face-to-face assessment centre in Glasgow or Hoylake in May. You will be notified of the result by early June 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is narrowly defined in terms of subject areas: only Master’s programmes in engineering and data- or cyber-related subjects are eligible, which means the pool of applicants is limited and the scheme is not open to everyone. If your degree clearly fits into these subject areas and you can demonstrate a grade of 2:1, your chances are good. The multi-stage selection process, which includes interviews and an assessment centre, means that you will not be assessed solely on the basis of your grades. You should therefore prepare thoroughly for these stages and apply within the short application window in March.
