About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a one-off grant of up to about 580 EUR (up to £500) to cover the costs of an engineering project. The money is earmarked for a specific project and is not intended to cover general living expenses. Every applicant will also be considered for the GU68 Engineers Trust Medal. The Trust was founded in 2004 by 1968 engineering graduates from the University of Glasgow to help current students fund their project work.
Who can apply
- University: You are currently studying at the University of Glasgow or on the ‘Product Design Engineering’ course at the Glasgow School of Art.
- Field of study: You’re studying engineering. No other degree subjects are an option.
- What the money is for: You have a study project or a group project for which you require financial support. Larger research programmes are excluded from this.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they meet the entry requirements of the university and the degree programme.
- Special route: Civil engineering students do not usually have a course project. Instead, they can receive partial funding to take part in the ConstructEd field course in May through a group application submitted by the department.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted via the online form on the Trust’s website. The application deadlines are each only two weeks long: early September (ideally for MEng students), early to mid-November (ideally for BEng students) and early January (ideally for PDE students at the Glasgow School of Art and some EEE MEng students). Groups working on projects outside the curriculum can get in touch at any time via the contact form. An interview may follow your application.
How realistic are your chances?
This award is granted to only a very small number of applicants. Only current engineering students from Glasgow with a specific project may apply, so the pool of applicants is small. If you are a clear fit for the subject area and the university, describe your project well and apply within the two-week window allocated for your degree programme, your chances are good. The main risk is missing this window, as applications submitted outside the specified deadlines will not be considered.
