About this grant / loan

What the PG Research Fund gives you

You will receive a small grant to cover travel expenses for attending an academic conference or undertaking a research trip within the UK. The programme is administered by the Department of Classical Philology and Ancient History at the University of Warwick. There is no fixed amount, and the payments are modest. As a rule, train or coach tickets and the conference registration fee are covered. You will only be reimbursed if you keep and submit your original receipts. A daily allowance for meals is not paid.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Warwick.
  • Level: You are a Master’s student or a PhD student.
  • Department: You are part of the Department of Classical Philology and Ancient History.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Purpose: The trip must be clearly related to your studies, for example as part of a conference or a research visit within the UK.
  • Limit: As a rule, you can only receive one travel grant per semester.

How to apply

Please complete the department’s travel application form. Include a brief description (maximum 200 words) of your planned activities, as well as a breakdown of the estimated costs. Have the form signed by your line manager and then submit it to the Head of Postgraduate Studies in the department. There is no deadline; applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received.

How realistic are your chances?

This fund is aimed at a small target group: only PhD students in a specific department at the University of Warwick are eligible to apply. If your trip is clearly in the interests of your research and your supervisor supports it, your chances are good. Bear in mind, however, that the amounts are modest and you can only apply once per term – so save the grant for a trip that is truly worthwhile.
