The Scott Prize (Teaching and Learning Physics in Schools)

For the best performance in the elective module ‘Teaching and Learning Physics in Schools’ during your physics degree at the University of Oxford, you will receive a one-off prize of about 190 EUR (150 GBP). As part of this elective module, you will spend half a day each week working alongside a physics teacher at a local school. The examiners of the ‘Final Honour School of Physics’ award the prize and select the best performance in this elective module each year.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying physics at the University of Oxford (BA or MPhys).
• The option: You choose the module ‘Teaching and Learning Physics in Schools’ and spend half a day a week assisting a physics teacher at a local school.
• Performance: This option will help you achieve the best results in your final physics exams.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at Oxford.

How realistic are your chances?

You cannot apply for this prize directly. It is awarded each year to a single physics student at Oxford who achieves the best results in a specific optional module. The pool of candidates is very small. The only way to be in with a chance is to study physics at Oxford, choose this specialisation and achieve outstanding results.
