Imperial Athletes Sport Scholarship

You get £200 to £3,000 per year (about 230 to 3,450 EUR) plus coaching and sports-medicine support, awarded by Imperial College London to students who compete in sport. The money can go towards kit, equipment, coaching and competition costs. There are three tiers: Bronze pays £200-£400 (about 230-460 EUR), Silver pays £250-£1,000 (about 290-1,150 EUR) and Gold pays £1,000-£3,000 (about 1,150-3,450 EUR). Every scholar also gets strength and conditioning sessions at the performance gym in Ethos and at Putney Boathouse, plus physiotherapy, sports rehab and massage. Gold and Silver scholars additionally get online sessions in sports psychology and nutrition. The exact package is tailored to you.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are already enrolled at Imperial College London. This is for continuing students, not for first-years before they start.
• Level of sport: You compete in your sport at regional, national or international level.
• Study phase: Any level qualifies, from bachelor's to taught master's, research master's and doctoral studies.
• Mode of study: Full-time and part-time students can apply.
• Field of study: Any department at Imperial, from engineering and computing to medicine and the business school.
• Nationality: Both UK and overseas students can apply.
• Commitment: You are ready to represent Imperial at inter-university sport events (BUCS) and to promote your sport on social media and at in-person events.

How to apply

You fill in an online application form. If shortlisted, you are invited to an online interview, with the timing confirmed shortly after the deadline. The application window opens twice a year: once in summer before Term 1 starts, and once over the winter break, closing shortly after Term 2 begins.

How realistic are your chances?

You must already study at Imperial and compete at a genuine regional, national or international level, so few students qualify. Competing at a high level does not by itself guarantee a place. The performance staff weigh several factors and decide case by case. If you clearly meet the sporting standard and can show you will represent and promote Imperial, your prospects are solid.
