Slade School of Fine Art, University College London - The Prankerd-Jones Memorial Prize

What you get

This is a small, annual prize awarded to students at the Slade School of Fine Art, which is part of University College London (UCL) in London. It is one of the Slade’s annual ‘semester prizes’, which recognise outstanding artistic achievement. The prize was established in 1983 in memory of Alison Jones, a former Slade student, and two other individuals. It is funded by their families and a group of donors.

• How you are chosen: The Slade Professor (the head of the department) decides who wins based on your work.

How to apply

You do not need to apply for this prize. It is awarded once a year on the recommendation of the Slade Professor.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize is very narrowly defined: only students of Fine Art at the Slade are eligible, and only a single prize is awarded, with the decision resting solely with the teaching staff – so it is not an open competition. You cannot apply yourself, so your chances depend entirely on how your work is assessed throughout the year. Focus on your studies; recognition will follow in due course.
