Southern Housing Study4Success Award

You get your full hall rent covered for one academic year (40 weeks), worth roughly £6,000 (about 7,000 EUR). Instead of a cash payment, the award pays your accommodation directly in one of Middlesex University London's halls of residence: Platt, Writtle or Usher Hall. One student wins it each year. The award is funded by Southern Housing, one of the UK's largest housing associations, and granted through Middlesex University.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are starting your first year of an undergraduate degree at Middlesex University London this September.
• Nationality: You are a UK student.
• Housing: You currently live in social housing (a council or housing-association home), alone or with your family. You show your tenancy agreement as proof.
• Reference: You provide an academic reference from a teacher or lecturer.
• Field of study: Any undergraduate degree subject.
• Community work (bonus): You get priority if you have volunteered or worked in your local community with a real positive impact. Coming from a financially disadvantaged background, or being the first in your family to go to university, also helps.

How to apply

Apply through the online form on the Middlesex University website. Include a personal statement of up to 500 words about yourself, your community work and why you deserve the award. The deadline for the 2026 cycle is 25 October 2026 at 23:55. Applications are reviewed the following week, and only shortlisted applicants are contacted.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one award is given each year, so this is competitive. But the eligibility is narrow: you must be a UK first-year at this one university and already live in social housing. That keeps the eligible pool small. If you fit those conditions and can show genuine community work with a positive social impact, your prospects are good. Being from a disadvantaged background or the first in your family to study helps further. A personal, heartfelt statement matters more than a polished one.
