What the RGU Sport Scholarship gives you

You will receive a support package for athletes at Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen, which is awarded for one academic year. The funding covers your sport-related costs throughout the year: travel, training, equipment and competition costs. You will also receive a free membership of RGU SPORT and access to its facilities for the duration of the scholarship. Furthermore, you will receive fitness assessments, support with strength and conditioning training, personalised guidance from RGU SPORT staff, branded sportswear, networking events, and workshops on nutrition, physiotherapy and performance-oriented lifestyles. The RGU also enables you to tailor your studies to your training and competition schedule.

Who can apply

• Your sport: You compete at national level or close to national level and can help to enhance the RGU’s sporting reputation.
• Your status at RGU: You are enrolled on at least one part-time degree programme at RGU, have applied and are awaiting confirmation of your place, or (in rare cases) you have completed your degree at RGU within the last 12 months.
• Level: Applications are open to students on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as PhD students.
• How you study: Whether full-time or part-time, on campus or online – it all counts.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online. The application period runs from May to August, and the deadline for applications is 1 September at 08:00. If you are shortlisted, you will meet with a member of staff from RGU SPORT by 19 September to discuss your sporting and academic goals. All applicants will be notified of the outcome by 30 September.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is restricted to RGU athletes who compete at national level or close to it, so the pool of candidates is small. If you are already training and competing at this level and are studying at the RGU (or plan to study there), you fit the profile perfectly and stand a good chance of being selected. The selection process is more about agreeing on goals than a large, open competition; therefore, clear evidence of your competition results is the most important factor.
