About this grant / loan
What the Alumni Scholarship gives you
At the University of Derby, you will receive a discount on your postgraduate tuition fees if you have already graduated from there. Students on a full-time Master’s programme receive a 25% off discount on their tuition fees. Students commencing a PhD, MPhil or Professional Doctorate programme (all of which are research-based degrees) will receive 10% off. The discount applies for the entire duration of your studies and is renewed each year upon re-enrolment. It applies regardless of whether you remain in the same department or switch to a new one, and is available to students from the UK, the EU and international students.
Who can apply
- Your first degree: To be eligible for the 25% Master’s discount, you must hold a bachelor’s degree from the University of Derby. To be eligible for the 10% research discount, you must hold any bachelor’s or master’s degree from the University of Derby.
- Where you study now: You will be starting a postgraduate programme at the University of Derby in the academic year 2026/27.
- Field of study: Any subject is acceptable, and you may change the subject area or campus of your first degree.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply (applications at domestic, EU and international fee rates are all welcome).
- Partner graduates: You will be considered if you studied at one of Derby’s partner universities but your degree was awarded by the University of Derby.
- Excluded courses: Certain courses are not eligible for funding: PGCEs, integrated Master’s programmes, postgraduate certificates and diplomas, continuing professional development (CPD) and in-company training, as well as MSc programmes designed to prepare students for entry into professions such as nursing, midwifery, diagnostic radiology and occupational therapy.
- No double-dipping: If you are also eligible for the Rector’s Scholarship or the ‘Great Scholarship’, you will only receive the scholarship with the higher value; you cannot receive both.
How to apply
No separate application is required. Once you have enrolled on an eligible postgraduate programme, the university will check your eligibility for funding and automatically apply the discount, usually within seven working days. You must accept the terms and conditions within 14 days of receiving your offer of place.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not an award granted as part of a competition. It is an automatic fee reduction for graduates of the University of Derby; therefore, there is neither a selection process nor a limit on the number of participants. If you hold a degree from the University of Derby and enrol on an eligible degree programme, you will receive the discount. The only reason for exclusion is enrolment on one of the excluded degree programmes.
