Postgraduate Access Scholarship (University of Glasgow)

You will receive a one-off grant of 4,600 EUR (£4,000) towards a full-time Master’s programme at the University of Glasgow. A Master’s programme is a one-year taught programme, not a research programme. If your Master’s programme lasts two years, you will only receive the grant in the first year. In each round of awards, the University of Glasgow awards 50 of these scholarships to help UK students who may be struggling to fund their studies. You cannot combine this scholarship with any other scholarships or discounts offered by the University of Glasgow, with the exception of the alumni discount.

Who can apply

• Place of study: You have been offered a place on a full-time, on-campus Master’s programme at the University of Glasgow, starting in September 2026. There are also a number of places available for part-time Master’s students.
• Programme: Most Master’s programmes are recognised, ranging from engineering and computer science to law, history and social work. PG Diploma and PG Certificate programmes are not recognised, with the exception of the PGDip in Legal Practice.
• Study level: You have not yet completed a postgraduate programme.
• Grades: You hold a bachelor’s degree with a grade of 2:1 or higher (a UK upper second-class honours degree).
• Residence: For the purposes of tuition fees, you are classified as a ‘Home’ or ‘RUK’ student, i.e. you live in the United Kingdom: in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales.
• Financial need: You can demonstrate that financial difficulties are making it hard for you to take up your place at university.
• Background: You will be given priority if, at Bachelor’s level, you meet one of the University of Glasgow’s criteria for wider participation. These are criteria used to identify students from under-represented groups.

How to apply

First, apply for your chosen Master’s programme and secure your place, as you must have been admitted to the programme to be eligible to apply. You should then apply for the scholarship via the university’s online scholarship portal, quoting your application number and your student ID number. The application deadline for the 2026/27 round is expected to begin in December 2025. All applications will be assessed once the application deadline has passed.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is aimed at a narrowly defined target group: British students based in the United Kingdom who have been offered a place on a taught Master’s programme, do not yet hold a postgraduate qualification, and have a demonstrable financial need. With 50 scholarships available per round of awards and a focus on under-represented groups, anyone who meets the eligibility criteria and can demonstrate financial need has a good chance of success. It is advisable to apply as soon as the application period opens.
