The Kingsbury Scholarship

You will receive a one-off scholarship of approximately 14,400 (£12,500) euros. In addition, your tuition fees will be covered in full at the domestic rate, which amounts to approximately 11,000 euros per year (£9,535). The scholarship is valid for the duration of your studies, up to a maximum of 4 years. It is awarded to just one student each year. It is awarded by the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London.

Who can apply

• Level: You are starting your first bachelor’s degree programme and have not yet completed a degree at bachelor’s level.
• Course: You have been offered a place on a 4-year MEng or MSci degree programme at Imperial College’s Faculty of Engineering, or on a 5-year programme including a year’s industrial placement. The MEng programme in ‘Design Engineering’ and programmes involving a year abroad are not eligible.
• Field: An engineering discipline such as aerospace engineering, bioengineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, earth sciences, electrical engineering, materials science or mechanical engineering.
• Fee status: You are a student from within the UK.
• Financial need: Your household income is less than £70,000 per year (approximately 82,000 euros), as verified by Student Finance England or an equivalent body.
• Industry experience: You must undertake at least one engineering work placement in the UK. This may take the form of a nine-month paid placement before the start of your degree, two summer placements of at least eight weeks each following your second and third years of study, or a placement integrated into your degree programme for which you will receive credits.

How to apply

You should complete the online form and attach a personal statement of no more than 250 words. In this, you should explain how and why you would like to work in the UK after completing your engineering degree. Your department will review your grades and your personal statement and draw up a shortlist. The final decision is made by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. The application deadline for the 2026/27 round is 30 May 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

As only one scholarship is awarded each year, competition is fierce, even though the eligibility criteria are quite strict. You will need very good grades, a clear plan for a career in engineering in the UK, and a genuine willingness to undertake the work placements. If two applicants are equally qualified, the one who has already completed a ‘Year in Industry’ before starting their degree will have the edge; it can therefore be advantageous to organise this at an early stage.
