The Liverpool Bursary

You will receive up to about EUR 2,340 (£2,000) per year for each year of your bachelor’s degree, which is usually around three years for a standard degree programme. The exact amount depends on your household income. If your income is below £25,000 per year, you will receive the full amount of £2,000 (approximately 2,340 euros). If your income is between £25,001 and £35,000, you will receive £750 (approximately 875 euros). You can receive the money as a cash payment or as a reduction on your tuition fees. The grant is awarded by the University of Liverpool, and around a third of its UK undergraduate students receive it.

Who can apply

• Level: You are starting a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Liverpool.
• Where you study: You’re studying at the University of Liverpool in the UK.
• Nationality: You are considered a UK ‘Home’ student, which means that, for the purposes of tuition fees, you are resident in the United Kingdom.
• Financial need: Your household income is less than £35,000 (around 40,900 euros) per year. The entire amount goes to households with an income below £25,000.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.

How to apply

There is no separate application form. When you apply online for a government student loan or a scholarship, you agree to your income details being passed on to the university. The team responsible for tuition fees will then check whether you meet the criteria and let you know if you are eligible.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a means-tested grant. Anyone who meets the income and enrolment criteria is eligible, which is why around a third of the University’s British undergraduate students receive this grant. If you are a British student enrolling at the University of Liverpool and your household income is below £35,000,, you can expect to receive this funding. Simply apply for your state student finance so that the university can automatically check your eligibility.
