IPPR and UCL - Amelia Zollner IPPR/UCL Internship Award

Benefit

You will receive a paid three-month full-time internship at the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), a political think tank in London, worth approximately 11,500 EUR. The IPPR will employ you for the placement, so you’ll receive a monthly salary, paid holiday, and have your social security contributions and taxes covered. You’ll also take part in training sessions as part of IPPR events. The role offers a practical introduction to policy research: you will support the research team, collect and analyse data, help organise public events, and assist with communications and administration. The IPPR and University College London (UCL) jointly fund the scholarship. It was established in 2007 in memory of UCL student Amelia Zollner.

Eligibility

• Your university: You are currently studying at UCL or have recently completed a bachelor’s, master’s or research degree at UCL.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Right to work: You are permitted to work legally in the United Kingdom, either by virtue of your nationality or on the basis of a valid work permit.
• Nationality: Any country may apply, provided that the ‘right-to-work’ rule mentioned above is met.
• Your interests: You’re interested in politics, current affairs and social justice, and would like to work in this field.
• Skills: You have some research skills, including basic experience of working with data.
• Money: Your financial circumstances will not influence the decision. Selection is based on your academic achievements, your research skills, your relevant experience and your motivation.

The application period begins in early January. Please request the application form from the IPPR by email and then return the completed form by email. Please do not submit a CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview.

How realistic are your chances?

As only one intern is selected per cycle, competition for this single place is fierce, even though the pool of applicants is limited to current or former UCL students. If you have a clear connection to UCL, are authorised to work in the UK and can demonstrate a genuine interest and some research experience in the field of politics, you are a strong candidate. Specific achievements in research or politics are what will set you apart from the rest.
