About this scholarship
What you get
You get about 2,300 EUR (£2,000) per year of study, for up to four years, which covers the full length of a bachelor's degree. That is a total of up to about 9,200 EUR (£8,000). The money comes from the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Manchester, which hands out 25 of these scholarships for students starting in September 2026. If your course includes an Industrial Experience Year, the year spent on a company placement, you get no payment during that year.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You hold an offer for a bachelor's course in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Manchester, starting September 2026. Courses with a foundation year count too.
- Nationality and fees: You count as a UK resident and pay home (UK) fees.
- UCAS choice: You pick Manchester as your firm choice in the main UCAS cycle. UCAS is the UK's central system for applying to university.
- Background: You are flagged as WP, WP+ or WP++. This means you come from an area with low university attendance or low income, went to a school below the national average, are a refugee, or spent more than three months in care. Manchester works this out automatically from your UCAS data, so you do not prove it yourself.
- Grades: The awards go to the highest-performing applicants in each subject, judged on your UCAS application and A-level results. To keep the money each year you need at least a 60% average.
How to apply
There is no separate application. Every eligible UK student who holds a faculty offer is considered automatically, based on their UCAS application and A-level results. If you are selected, the faculty contacts you after you register in your first semester.
How realistic are your chances?
The award is cut narrowly. You must pay UK fees, hold a science or engineering offer at Manchester, and carry a widening-participation flag, which shrinks the pool sharply. With 25 awards spread across different subjects and no separate form to fill in, a well-matched applicant with strong A-level results and the right flag has solid prospects. Selection is by grades, so the stronger your results within your subject, the better your chance.
