UCL Economics doctoral funding

You will receive a annual payment of about EUR 1,122 (GBP 21,000) as well as full exemption from tuition fees whilst you are studying for your MPhil/PhD in Economics at University College London (UCL). The funding is available for a period of up to 48 months. In return, you will work as a teaching assistant for up to 312 hours per year, spread over the duration of your studies, as agreed with the department. If you already have your own external PhD funding, the department will top this up and award you a bonus for securing external funding.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are about to start a doctoral programme (MPhil/PhD) in Economics at UCL, or are already enrolled on one.
• Field of study: Economics, including finance.
• Enrolment: Both full-time and part-time students are eligible to apply, although different eligibility criteria apply to each group.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Teaching: You are willing to work as a teaching assistant, provided that your own sponsor does not limit the number of lessons you can teach.

You are applying for the UCL PhD programme in Economics. Funding is linked to your place on the programme, so no separate application is required. The application deadline is 31 March.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is conditional upon admission to a specific PhD programme at a highly selective department; therefore, the real challenge lies in securing a PhD place in the first place. If you are admitted, the funding is already included in the offer of admission and does not need to be applied for separately. This means that your funding is secured as soon as you have been accepted. Please apply in good time before the deadline in March.
