About this scholarship

What the Vincent's Awards give you

You will receive a one-year sports scholarship. The main prize, the Sir Roger Bannister Prize, is worth up to about 11,500 EUR (10,000 GBP). Most of the other awards are smaller, ranging from around 575 to 5,750 EUR (500 to 5,000 GBP). The money is paid out over one academic year. The programme is run by Vincent’s Club, a members’ club at the University of Oxford, and supports students who combine outstanding academic achievement with serious sporting commitment.

Who can apply

  • University: You are studying at the University of Oxford, or you have been offered a place and have accepted it.
  • Sport: You play one of the sports officially recognised by the University of Oxford.
  • Field of study: All hatches are open.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, and there are no restrictions based on gender.
  • Results: As well as excellent academic results, you have a track record of sporting achievements and great potential.
  • Character: You demonstrate leadership qualities, team spirit and an interest in cross-organisational activities, for example in the field of public relations or in supporting people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Financial need: Financial worries can have a positive impact on your application, but only as part of the overall picture and not on their own.

How to apply

Applications must be made via the online form on the Vincent’s Club website, to which you must attach your CV. You will also need two references: one from an academic background and one from the world of sport, for example from your head coach. A selection panel decides who receives funding and the amount awarded; this decision is final and cannot be appealed.

How realistic are your chances?

This call for applications is open exclusively to students at the University of Oxford and to applicants who have received an offer of admission and who are actively involved in a registered university sport; it therefore targets a specific, limited group. Within this group, the bar is set high: the committee expects outstanding academic results, genuine sporting achievements and strong leadership qualities. The highest honours are prizes named after individuals. If you can combine academic and sporting excellence and demonstrate character beyond your results, your prospects are good.
