About this scholarship

What you get

At the start of the academic year, you will receive approximately 700 EUR (£600) paid directly into your account. You will also receive sports science support and a kit pack, bringing the total value to approximately 1,160 EUR (£1,000). The scholarship is valid for one academic year and is non-transferable, so you will need to reapply each year. It is administered by Sport Beds, the sports department at the University of Bedfordshire in the UK.

Who can apply

  • University: You are studying at the University of Bedfordshire or have been admitted there to a full-time degree programme.
  • Level: Both undergraduate and postgraduate students are eligible to apply.
  • What you do: You are active as a referee or sports official at district, regional or an equivalent international level. This must have been the case within the last 12 months or must commence in the coming season.
  • Subject: Any subject. No specific course is required.
  • Nationality: All nationalities. Students from Germany, the EU and the rest of the world are welcome to apply.

How to apply

Please email your application to the Sport Beds Scholarship Office. Please attach as much supporting evidence as possible, such as letters on official letterhead or copies of your refereeing certificates. A panel consisting of a member of the academic staff, a representative of the student union and staff from Sport Beds will decide on the award of the scholarship. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee that a scholarship will be awarded. Applications for 2026/27 are now open.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is subject to strict criteria: you must be studying at a specific university and be active as a referee or official at district level or above, meaning that only a few people meet the requirements. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide evidence of your achievements, your chances are good. However, the decision is made by a panel, so well-documented evidence of your achievements is of the utmost importance.
