What the scholarship covers

You will receive your tuition fees paid at the UK rate for a full-time Master’s programme at the School of History, Classics and Archaeology (HCA) at the University of Edinburgh. The exact amount depends on your degree programme (the info box gives 738 EUR as a guide). If you are an international student (not from the UK), the scholarship will only cover UK tuition fees, so you will need to cover the difference up to the higher international fee yourself. The funding covers the entire duration of your Master’s programme, which is usually one year. The faculty awards this scholarship to attract highly qualified applicants to its Master’s programmes.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are applying for a full-time Master’s degree programme at the university. Part-time programmes are not permitted.
• Field of study: Any master’s degree programme offered by the Faculty of History, Classical Philology and Archaeology, such as History or Archaeology.
• Grades: You hold a UK bachelor’s degree with a ‘First Class Honours’ classification (or an equivalent overseas qualification) in a relevant subject area, or are due to obtain one. Awards, publications or professional achievements may strengthen your application, but you will still need a very good first-class honours degree.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities. Both students from the UK and from abroad are welcome to apply.

How to apply

The application process consists of two stages. First, submit your academic application for the Master’s programme via the University of Edinburgh’s online system by 2 February 2026, 23:59 GMT. Once you have been admitted and have received your university login details, please complete the separate scholarship form on the MyEd portal by 16 February 2026, 23:59 GMT. Select the option ‘School of History, Classics and Archaeology – Master’s’ and write a personal statement of no more than 3,500 characters. Decisions will be announced in April or May 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is linked to a specific faculty at a particular university and requires a first-class honours degree, meaning that only particularly well-qualified applicants from the fields of history, classical philology and archaeology should apply. If you clearly meet this academic requirement and your personal statement is convincing, your chances are good.
