School Masters Scholarship

You have been awarded your Master's tuition fees paid at the UK fee rate for a full-time Master’s programme at the School of History, Classics and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh. The University of Edinburgh awards the scholarship on the basis of your academic results and your potential to successfully complete the programme. If you are an international student, please note the following restriction: the scholarship only covers the tuition fees for UK students. You will be required to cover the difference between the fees for UK students and the higher fees for international students yourself.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are starting a Master’s degree at the Faculty of History, Classical Philology and Archaeology.
• Enrolment: You are studying full-time. Part-time degree programmes are not permitted.
• Field of study: All Master’s degree programmes offered by the faculty, including History and Archaeology.
• Grades: You hold a UK First-Class Honours degree (the highest grade in a bachelor’s degree) or an equivalent qualification from your home country, or are due to obtain one. You may also be able to demonstrate this through professional achievements, awards or publications, but you will still need a very good first-class honours degree.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

There are two steps involved. First, apply for the Master’s programme via the University of Edinburgh’s online system by 2 February. Then, by 16 February, submit a separate scholarship application via the MyEd portal, including a personal statement of no more than 3,500 characters. You will be notified of the result in April or May.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is intended for a faculty at a university and requires outstanding academic results, so the pool of eligible applicants is already quite small. If you have a degree with a ‘First Class’ grade and can demonstrate your suitability in your personal statement, your chances are good.
