Holligrave Scholarship

You get a cash bursary of about 2,320 EUR per year (£2,000) for the length of your degree, up to a maximum of 4 years. You can spend the money on your tuition or living costs. Imperial College London awards three of these bursaries each year to new undergraduate students in its Faculty of Engineering. Repeat years are not covered.

Who can apply

• Admission: You hold an offer to study a Bachelor's course in Imperial's Faculty of Engineering.
• Field of study: Your course is in one of ten engineering departments, such as Aeronautics, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computing, Design Engineering, Earth Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials or Mechanical Engineering.
• Fee status: You have Home fee status, meaning you count as a UK student for tuition fees.
• Financial need: Student Finance England (or an equivalent body) has assessed your household income at less than £70,000 per year.
• Study phase: You are starting your first year. Students already on the course cannot apply, and you cannot delay the award to a later year.

How to apply

There is no separate form. You apply for student finance and get means-tested, so Imperial can confirm your household income is under £70,000. You also submit a UCAS application and receive an offer for an engineering course. Do both by 29 May. Departments rank applicants by academic merit from predicted A-Level grades, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering makes the final choice. There is no interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly: only UK-fee students starting an Imperial engineering degree with a household income under £70,000 qualify, and just three bursaries go out each year. Strong predicted grades matter, since selection rests on academic ranking plus need. Apply for your means test early, as Student Finance can take up to eight weeks to confirm your income before the deadline.
