Horwill Memorial Scholarship

As a new Bachelor’s student at University of Exeter, you will receive up to £125 per year (about 145 EUR). You can renew this grant each academic year, so that it covers the entire duration of your degree. The University of Exeter awards this grant as one of its entry-level scholarships for first-year students.

Who can apply

• University: You have been offered a place on a Bachelor’s degree programme at the University of Exeter and applied via UCAS, the central admissions service for higher education institutions in the United Kingdom.
• Study phase: You are a new first-year student and are just starting your degree.
• Family link: You have a relative who works for the Post Office in the south-west of England or who has retired there.
• Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
• Nationality: You are applying as a domestic (UK) student.

How to apply

Please email the University’s Admissions and Scholarships Team to request an application form. When doing so, please state your nine-digit Exeter student number and the name of the scholarship. The application deadline is 17 September. A scholarship panel will then review your form and confirm whether you meet the criteria.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. You must have a relative who is employed by the Post Office in the south-west of England or who has retired there, which limits the pool of eligible applicants to a small number of people from Exeter. If you clearly meet this condition and have been offered a place, your chances are good, as very few people are eligible to apply. The amount is modest, so it is more suitable as a small source of supplementary funding than as a main source of funding.
