About this scholarship
Cost of Living Bursary 2026 (University of Hull)
You get a one-off cash payment of 1,500 GBP (about 1,780 EUR) in your first year at the University of Hull. The money comes in two instalments during the year. You can spend it on whatever you need: rent, food, books, bills or travel. The University of Hull runs this bursary to help new students from areas where few people go to university. It covers the first year only, with no follow-on funding.
Who can apply
- Level: You are a new undergraduate or foundation year student starting your first year in 2026.
- Where you study: You study on campus at the University of Hull. Part-time, distance-learning and Hull York Medical School students cannot get it.
- Fee status: You count as a home (UK) student.
- Where you live: Your home address sits in a postcode where few people go to higher education (POLAR4 quintile 1 or 2, a UK measure of how many local young people enter university). Check your postcode on the University's website before you apply.
- Field of study: Open to all full-time undergraduate degrees, except certain health courses that already get extra government funding.
- Enrolment: You must be fully enrolled and active on your course by 16 October 2026. You lose the award if you defer to 2027, or stop or leave during the year.
How to apply
There is no separate application. Once the University makes you a study offer, it checks your eligibility automatically and tells you whether you qualify. To be considered, you must hold a firm offer from the University of Hull by 30 June 2026 and live in an eligible postcode. You can only hold one University scholarship or bursary at a time, so if you qualify for more than one, you choose after you enrol.
How realistic are your chances?
This bursary is cut narrowly: you must be a new home student, starting on campus in 2026, and living in a low-participation postcode. There is no competition or selection, so if you meet these conditions you receive it automatically. The main things to check are your postcode and holding a firm offer by 30 June 2026.
