About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive about 1,750 EUR per year (GBP 1,500) for the entire duration of your studies, which, for a full-time Bachelor’s degree, means up to three or four years. You do not have to repay the money. The scholarship is funded from the estate of Kevin Malone, who was born in Nottingham, and is awarded at the University of Nottingham’s UK campus. At least nine scholarships are awarded each year, meaning that several students from each year group are considered.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You will begin the first year of a full-time Bachelor’s degree at the University of Nottingham (UK campus) in the autumn. A foundation year (year 0) will not count towards your degree.
  • First degree: You have not yet completed a bachelor’s degree.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Where you live: You are resident in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire, and you have lived in the United Kingdom for at least three years prior to the start of your degree (’Home’ fee status).
  • School: You attended a state school or state grammar school in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire throughout your secondary education.
  • Financial need: Your household income is less than 25,000 GBP, as confirmed to the university by Student Finance.
  • No other funding: You do not have an external sponsor (e.g. an employer) and do not receive NHS funding for your degree programme. Traditional university scholarships and government grants are permitted.
  • Also considered: The university takes into account your school grades, your achievements outside school and any factors that may have influenced your academic performance.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via an online form. The application period begins on 21 September 2026 and ends on Friday, 23 January 2027. Selection will be based on your written application. You will receive a response by email within four weeks of the application deadline.

How realistic are your chances?

The awarding of this grant is strictly regulated. You must live in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire, have attended a state school there, and have a household income of less than 25,000 GBP. This keeps the pool of applicants small. As at least nine scholarships are awarded per year group, anyone who clearly meets these criteria and applies before the deadline has a good chance of success.
