Undergraduate Summer Projects (University of Nottingham)

You get a bursary of £300 per week (about 350 EUR) for an 8-week summer research project. A bursary is a cash grant you do not repay. Over the full 8 weeks that adds up to £2,400 (about 2,800 EUR). You join a research group in the School of Physics and Astronomy and work on a real project. Fields range from medical physics and astronomy to experimental quantum optics, materials science and computational physics. You agree the start and end dates with your supervisor, and you can take a two-week break if you arrange it with them. The award comes directly from the university's School of Physics and Astronomy.

Who can apply

• University: You are a registered student at the University of Nottingham. Students from other universities cannot apply.
• Level: You are an undergraduate, usually before your final year.
• Field of study: You study physics or astronomy.

How realistic are your chances?

Only Nottingham undergraduates in physics and astronomy can apply, so the eligible pool is small. If you study physics there and can show genuine interest in research, your prospects are reasonable. Approaching supervisors early and matching your interests to their projects is what makes the difference.
