About this scholarship

Queen Mary Bursary

You will receive up to about 1,955 EUR per year (1,700 GBP) if your household income is below 20,000 GBP. If your household income is between 20,000 and 35,000 GBP, you will receive approximately 1,150 EUR per year (1,000 GBP). This is a grant from Queen Mary University of London for undergraduate students who need help with their study and travel costs. You will receive it every year that you pay tuition fees, in two instalments (in November and March), and you will never have to repay it.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are studying for a Bachelor’s degree.
  • University: You are enrolled as a full-time student at Queen Mary University of London.
  • Where you're from: You are a student from the UK who is eligible for a government maintenance loan. International students and students from the EU who are only eligible for a tuition fee loan cannot receive this loan.
  • Income: Your household income is less than 35,000 GBP per year.
  • Study mode: You must attend in person. Distance-learning students are not eligible.
  • Subject: Any field of study.

How to apply

There is no separate application form. You apply for means-tested student finance through your regional funding agency (Student Finance England, Wales, Northern Ireland or SAAS in Scotland). They will automatically pass on your household income details to Queen Mary. For the year 2025/26, the student finance agency must have completed the assessment of your income by 31 July 2026 and submitted the data to Queen Mary. If you do not wish to take out a loan, you can still apply for an income assessment solely for the grant.

How realistic are your chances?

Every eligible student receives this grant, so there is neither a competitive process nor a selection panel. If you are studying at Queen Mary, are a UK student eligible for a living costs loan, and your household income is below 35,000 GBP, you will receive it automatically. The only thing that might throw a spanner in the works is the timetable: make sure that Student Finance completes your means test before the deadline.
