About this scholarship
UEL Sports Scholarship
You will receive up to about 6,900 EUR per year (up to £6,000) to cover your tuition fees and living costs for one year at the University of East London in the UK. You will also receive a comprehensive support package for elite athletes. This includes physiotherapy, sports massages and osteopathy; private access to the ‘Aqua East’ training centre for strength and conditioning training, ice baths and compression therapy; as well as sports science support in the areas of nutrition, psychology, physiology, biomechanics and performance analysis. Your study programme will be flexibly adapted to suit your training and competitions, and you will be given priority when it comes to allocating on-campus accommodation alongside other athletes. UEL currently supports over 150 sports scholarship holders, including Olympians and national-level athletes.
Who can apply
- University: You are applying for a degree programme at the University of East London or are already enrolled there.
- Degree level: You are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- Sport: You play one of the four elite sports: basketball, football, volleyball or wheelchair basketball.
- Level: You are a competitive athlete with a proven track record of success, usually at regional, national or academy level.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Both students from the UK and those from abroad are eligible to apply.
- Field of study: Any topic is fine.
How to apply
Firstly, you must be admitted to a degree programme at UEL. You then apply for the scholarship separately using the online form on the ‘Performance Sports’ page. The coaches assess each athlete individually and may invite you to a trial session. Apply early, as places are limited.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is restricted to a handful of elite sports and requires a successful competitive track record, meaning that far fewer people qualify for it than for open academic scholarships. If you compete in one of the four sports at regional, national or academy level and secure a place at UEL, your prospects are good. Apply early, as the number of scholarship places is limited.
