About this scholarship
What the Richard Fenwick PG Scholarship covers
This scholarship covers your tuition fees at the UK ‘domestic rate’ for one year of postgraduate study at the University of Birmingham. Subject to available funding, you may also receive a living allowance to cover your living costs, the amount of which is based on the UK Research Council’s basic rate. The University of Birmingham awards one scholarship per selection round.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Birmingham.
- Level: You are studying full-time to obtain a higher academic qualification, such as a Master’s or a PhD.
- Field of study: All degree programmes except Medicine and Dentistry (Faculty of Medical and Dental Sciences).
- Grades: You have a good bachelor’s degree and have been offered a place on a postgraduate course.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
How to apply
You cannot apply yourself. Your faculty or department at the University of Birmingham puts forward candidates. Nominations can be made throughout the year; there is no fixed deadline.
How realistic are your chances?
Only one scholarship is awarded per round, and your faculty must select you as their first choice. This makes for fierce competition within the University of Birmingham, as outstanding PhD students qualify in almost every department. If your grades are outstanding and your department is behind you, you have a real chance, but the fact that only one scholarship is available makes for a tight race.
