What you get

You will receive a one-off bursary (a one-off payment; not a monthly grant) from a fund with a total value of approximately 11,600 EUR (£10,000). The faculty divides this amount amongst several students, so the amount you receive will depend on how many people apply and are successful. As this amount will not cover all your costs, you should also look into other funding options. The funding comes from UCL’s Department of Security and Criminology and is intended to support high-achieving students on Master’s programmes.

Who can apply

• Offer needed: You have already been offered a place on one of the MSc programmes offered by the School, such as the MSc in ‘Crime Science’, the MSc in ‘Crime and Forensic Science’, the MSc in ‘Policing’ or the MSc in ‘Countering Extremist Crime and Terrorism’. Postgraduate diplomas and certificates are not taken into account.
• Institution: You are studying at this department at UCL in London. Other departments at UCL and other universities are excluded.
• Nationality: Open to people of all nationalities, both from the UK and abroad.
• Entry grades (Crime Science MSc): As a rule, a lower second-class bachelor’s degree (a 2:2) in a relevant subject area such as engineering, computer science, psychology, criminology or geography, or an equivalent foreign qualification. Instead of a degree, at least five years’ relevant professional experience, for example in the police force or in crime prevention, may also be accepted as a qualification.
• English: You meet the UCL’s English language requirements 3.

How to apply

First, complete your online application for your chosen MSc programme, including any references. Then, complete the separate scholarship application form and submit it by email. The deadline is 30 April 2026; both applications must be received in full by this date. Decisions will be communicated by email within six weeks of the deadline, regardless of your admission decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined: you must already have been admitted to one of the MSc programmes offered by the department, meaning that it is restricted to students whose admission has already been confirmed. The catch is the small total amount, which is divided amongst several recipients, meaning that the amount per person is modest and the scholarship is awarded to outstanding applicants. If you have a strong offer of admission and can set out clear reasons why you deserve this support, your chances are good. It is advisable to submit your application for the programme well in advance of the deadline.
