About this scholarship
What the UCLan Financial Bursary gives you
You will receive an annual scholarship of about 580 EUR (500 GBP) for your foundation year, and for your first and second years of study. In the final year of your Bachelor’s degree, this amount increases to approximately 870 EUR (750 GBP). You do not have to repay this money. Payments are made in two instalments per academic year via the university’s ‘Student Wallet’ payment system. The first payment is made at the end of November, and the second at the end of February. The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Preston and Burnley pays out the grant to support students from low-income households.
Who can apply
- University: You are studying at UCLan’s Preston or Burnley campus, not at a partner university or a campus abroad.
- Degree: You are enrolled on a full-time bachelor’s degree programme. Dentistry, the MBBS medical degree programme and pre-registration nursing training are not permitted.
- Where you're from: You are a British student from England, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Students from Wales, the Channel Islands, the EU and other countries are not eligible for this scholarship.
- Fees: You pay the highest rate of tuition fees.
- Financial need: According to Student Finance England, Student Finance Northern Ireland or the Student Awards Agency for Scotland, your household income is 25,000 GBP per year.
- Enrolment: You are fully enrolled and attending classes at the time each payment is due.
How to apply
There is no separate application form. You apply to ‘Student Finance’ for a means test and agree that your details may be passed on to UCLan. Once you have enrolled and the academic year has begun, UCLan will automatically check your eligibility and notify eligible students by email via ‘Student Wallet’. There is no fixed deadline.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not an award that you have to earn. If you meet the income threshold and the other eligibility criteria, you will receive it automatically. Your chances of receiving it depend solely on whether you clearly meet the criteria. The most important thing is that you are assessed by Student Finance, consent to the sharing of this information, and are enrolled on an eligible course at the Preston or Burnley campus.
