Aberystwyth University - Sports Scholarship

What you get

You will receive about 1,150 EUR per year (£1,000) for the entire duration of your studies, provided you remain a full-time student and meet the eligibility criteria. The money will be paid directly into your bank account in two instalments, one at the beginning of December and one at the beginning of March. In addition to the funding, you will receive a free Platinum membership at the University Sports Centre, a guaranteed place in a hall of residence, priority access to the strength and conditioning facilities at set times, and mentoring (regular one-to-one support), to help you balance training and your studies. You can also apply for a grant of 60% towards sports qualifications such as coaching, refereeing or first-aid training, and take part in workshops on recovery, nutrition and fitness testing. Aberystwyth University in Wales awards five of these scholarships each year.

Who can apply

• Level: You are starting a full-time degree programme at the introductory or main stage.
• New students only: You are a new applicant and are not yet studying in Aberystwyth.
• Sport: You play football, mountain biking, netball or rugby at a high level, or another sport (the ‘Wild Card’ option).
• Field of study: Any subject.
• First choice: You’ve listed Aberystwyth as your ‘firm choice’, i.e. your first choice.
• Nationality: You are applying from the UK.

Please complete the online application form and attach a letter of recommendation by 30 June. As part of the selection process, you may be invited to an interview.

How realistic are your chances?

Only five of these scholarships are awarded each year, so competition is fierce. You must demonstrate genuine sporting excellence, not just an interest. If you compete at a high level in one of the priority sports or can demonstrate elite-level ability in another sport, list Aberystwyth as your first choice and support your application with a strong reference, your chances are good. Make sure you apply well in advance of the June deadline so that you have plenty of time should an interview be arranged.
