About this scholarship
Benefit
You get a one-off grant of up to about 3,500 EUR (£3,000) per application. You do not pay it back. It covers extra costs you cannot pay from any other source, for example equipment not funded elsewhere or a dyslexia diagnostic test. Each case is judged individually, so you may be offered part of the amount you ask for rather than the full sum. The School of Advanced Study (SAS) at the University of London runs the grant for students in financial hardship.
Eligibility
- Where you study: You study at the School of Advanced Study (SAS), University of London. You can also apply if you are on a University of London Worldwide distance or flexible-learning course, or at the University of London Institute in Paris.
- Level and field: All programmes, all study modes and any fee status can apply.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- Financial need: You have costs you cannot cover from other support, and you can document your situation.
How to apply
Fill in the University of London Hardship Fund application form and send it to the SAS Registry with evidence of your financial situation. There is no fixed deadline, so you can apply at any time during the academic year. You normally apply once a year, but a second application is possible in severe hardship.
How realistic are your chances?
This is an emergency fund, not a competitive scholarship. There is no interview and no ranking against other students. What decides the outcome is whether you can clearly show real financial need and that no other source covers the costs. If you document your situation well, your prospects are good, though the amount awarded is set case by case and may be less than you request.
