Valerie Myerscough Studentships

You will receive financial support for your degree in Astronomy, Mathematics or Physics at Queen Mary or Royal Holloway, two colleges of the University of London. The funding comes from a memorial fund established in honour of Dr Valerie Myerscough, a British mathematician and astrophysicist, and is disbursed through the two colleges. The amount and duration are not disclosed, as they depend on the fund’s annual returns.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying at Queen Mary or Royal Holloway, both of which are part of the University of London. Other universities do not count.
• Field of study: You’re studying astronomy, mathematics or physics.
• Ability: You have achieved outstanding results and can demonstrate that you are capable of carrying out your own original research.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is very narrowly defined: only two specifically named colleges and three departments are eligible, so the pool of potential applicants is small. If you are studying astronomy, mathematics or physics at Queen Mary or Royal Holloway and can demonstrate outstanding academic achievement with genuine research potential, your chances are good. The colleges carry out the selection process themselves, so a clear, research-oriented profile will stand out particularly well.
