Care Leaver Award

You get a one-off 1,000 GBP (about 1,150 EUR) if you study full time, or 500 GBP (about 575 EUR) if you study part time. It is paid in two instalments. The award comes from Wrexham University in Wales and goes to undergraduate students who are care leavers, meaning people who grew up in foster care or a children's home. The university hands out 10 awards each year.

How to apply

You do not fill in a separate form. When you apply to study, through UCAS or directly, you tick that you are a care leaver. Once you enrol, the award is added and paid to you automatically.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligible group is small, because only care leavers starting at this one university can get it. There is no grade or income test. The university caps it at 10 awards a year, so make your care-leaver status clear when you apply, and apply early.
