University College London - The Keith Wightman Scholarship

What the Keith Wightman Scholarship gives you

You will receive about EUR 2,030 per year (£1,750) for two years, making a total of approximately 4,060 (£3,500) euros. University College London (UCL) awards the scholarship to a student who has both excellent academic results and outstanding sporting achievements, particularly in golf. Only one student is selected per round. You will receive the payment for the second year for as long as you pass your modules.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying at UCL and have completed your first or second year of a bachelor’s degree programme.
• Field of study: Any Bachelor’s degree subject.
• Sport: You are an outstanding golfer. Preference will be given to golfers with a handicap of 5 or lower, or players in category 1. Should no golfer qualify, the award may be presented to someone who has achieved outstanding results in another sport.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Students from the UK, the EU and other countries are equally eligible to take part.
• Financial need: Your financial situation is a factor. UCL classifies a household income of £25,000 or less as ‘low income’ and £42,875 or less as ‘very low income’.

How to apply

Please apply via the askUCL application system. You will need to submit an application form, an academic reference form and a sports support form. The application deadline is 5 January at 31. You will receive a response by the end of February.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is awarded to very few people. Only one is awarded each year, and preference is given to serious golfers with a handicap of 5 or lower. If you fall into this category, are studying at UCL and have good grades, the pool of applicants is small and your prospects are really good. Outstanding athletes from other disciplines also stand a chance, but only if no qualified golfer applies.
